Blairscove was built in 1760 overlooking the West Cork coastline. SInce 1972 Philippe and Sabine De Mey have run it as a Country House retreat and accommodation. Because of the quality of their food and uniqueness of accommodation, they have found their way into Ireland’s Blue Book.
They approached Deliciously Creative to redesign their existing basic site. Their main focus was on getting the unique visual look and design of the house and accommodation into people’s minds.
Making things simple for the user
ExpressionEngine was used for content management for both ease of use and its powerful features. Valid HTML templates and a CSS structure were developed from the ground up. The agreed upon structure of the site was simple and so we came to a decision to keep subpages to a minimum. As images were being used to tell the story, content was kept to a minimum as well on many of the pages.
With so many professional images to choose from, the only issue was how to show these off without having to continually click to enlarge them. After looking at many gallery options, including Flash based versions, a JavaScript Gallery was opted for. This was used for both decent rendering time and also better accessibility and SEO factors.
Site was built with XHTML, CSS and JavaScript.
